The Doom 3 engine is a computer game engine developed by id Software and first used in the PC game Doom 3. The engine was designed by John Carmack, who also created previous engines such as those for Doom and Quake. The DOOM 3 engine added several new features absent in the Quake III engine that preceded it. New features for DOOM 3 included bump mapping, normal mapping, and specular highlighting.
When gaming at a resolution of 1280×1024 on the 4200+ AM2 processor we found the game play to be very smooth and the testing showed it to run 102.3 FPS on the benchmark. After overclocking this score jumped up to 141.8FPS, which is an increase of 39.5 frames per second. On Doom 3 we observe a 39% frame rate increase thanks to the 40% system overclock.
