Open World Star Wars Game Axed by EA

By

Sources who claim to be familiar with what is going on at EA are reporting that it has canceled the open-world Star Wars game that was in the works. The game was announced in 2017 and was being developed by EA in Vancouver. The Vancouver studio had taken over that game when Visceral Studios was closed in 2017.

The original game was a linear action adventure game. When EA took over, the game was completely rebooted into an open world title keeping nothing but a few art assets from the original game.

EA has made no official comment on the cancellation of the game. Kotaku reports that the game was codenamed Orca and that EA decided it needed something sooner than the Star Wars title could be delivered.

As it was looking, the Star Wars game wouldn’t land until late 2020, right when new consoles are expected. No devs were laid off with the cancellation of the game.
