OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD Pricing Disclosed

By

This afternoon OCZ announced the new Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD series, but didn’t mention the price in the press release that the company issued. We got in touch with OCZ tonight and found out the suggested retail pricing (SRP) for the 120GB and 240GB drives will be as follows:

  • 120GB: VTX3MI-25SAT3-120G – $279.99
  • 240GB: VTX3MI-25SAT3-240G – $549.99

This is a little shocking to us as the original OCZ Vertex 3 SSD costs the same price or even more if you look at today’s street prices. Why would anyone want the original Vertex 3 SSD when it costs more and has lower 4K random Read and Write IOPS?

  • 120GB: VTX3-25SAT3-120G – $299.99
  • 240GB: VTX3-25SAT3-240G – $549.99

Well, we went back and looked at some e-mails from February 2011 and the suggested retail price of the Vertex 3 was $499.99 for the 240GB drive and $249.99 for the 120GB version. That means the new Vertex 3 Max IOPS series has an SRP that is $30 higher than the original Vertex 3 drives. It looks like the street price is about $50 higher than the SRP on the original Vertex 3. If the same holds true for the Vertex 3 MAX IOPS series that means the street prices on these drives will be $329.99 and $599.99.
