OCZ Vector SSD Coming Soon – Indilinx Barefoot 3 Controller

By

While in San Fransisco this week we bumped into OCZ and they showed us a new SATA III 6Gbps Solid-State Drive (SSD) called the called the Vector. The OCZ Vector will soon be replacing the Vertex 4 at the top of OCZ’s lineup. The Vector uses an Indilinx controller that is based on the new Barefoot 3 core architecture that was developed totally in-house without any assistance from Marvell designs.

OCZ told us that you can expect to see 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions of the drives in Q4 2012. OCZ is currently working on perfecting the firmware for this new controller, so they were unable to talk about IOPS, read/write speeds and pricing due to the fact that they are over a month away from launching. If all goes as planned this will be the Indilinx controller design done by OCZ with no third party intellectual property being used. This would be a significant milestone for OCZ and will further establish the company as a major SSD player. You can see a close-up of the Barefoot 3 controller below!
