OCZ Opens Brand New SSD Manufacturing Plant in Taiwan

By

OCZ Technology just sent us word that they are opening a new SSD manufacturing plant in Taipei, Taiwan that is slated to begin operation on Monday, October 25. OCZ told us that they built the brand new facility to increase the company’s SSD manufacturing capacity to 140,000 units a month from 50,000 units a month. This will help OCZ keep up with the growing demand for both client and enterprise OCZ SSDs as right now they have just two lines. We asked OCZ what drives will be made here and they wouldn’t give models, but stated that OEM/enterprise parts will be starting to run off the line next week with consumer parts coming shortly after. OCZ also let us know they have a short run manufacturing line in the new plant that will allow them to build prototype drives in-house. Currently the company has to outsource prototype and engineering samples, so this should improve time to market (TTM) as well.

“As our SSD revenues continue to expand, we are happy to announce our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Taipei, Taiwan,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. “Our new 20,000 square foot facility was set up in response to increased demand from OEMs for our Enterprise Solid State Drive products and significantly increases our monthly SSD capacity.”
