OCZ Announces Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSDs – 25% Better 4K Random IOPS

By

OCZ today unveiled a new addition to the Vertex 3 SATA III SSD Series. The Vertex 3 Max IOPS edition combines the cutting-edge SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor with premium NAND flash components to deliver exceptional 4KB random write performance with up to 75,000 IOPS. The Vertex 3 Max IOPS will be available in capacities of 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB. The OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB SSD has max speeds of up to 550MB/s read and 500MB/s write, which is identical to the standard OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD. The main difference between the two drives is the 4KB Random IOPS, just like the name of this new drive implies. The original Vertex 3 120GB SSD had a Random Write 4KB (Aligned) of 60,000 IOPS. The 120GB Max IOPS new drive has 75,000 IOPS, which is an impressive 25% improvement. We asked OCZ for pricing information, but have not heard back from them yet. We expect it to be higher than the Vertex 3 since the drive is faster.

OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS

OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB SSD Max Performance (VTX3MI-25SAT3-120G):

  • Max Read: up to 550MB/s
  • Max Write: up to 500MB/s
  • Random Read 4KB (Aligned): 35,000 IOPS
  • Random Write 4KB (Aligned): 75,000 IOPS

Following the successful launch of our Vertex 3 SATA III 6Gbps solid state drives we are pleased to introduce the new Max IOPS edition, said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group. Vertex 3 Max IOPS drives increase random write performance, and are the ideal storage solution for applications that require high aggregate workloads and increased IO throughput.
