Oculus Rift Used To Show Internet LAG in Real Life
Who doesn’t hate lag? We ran across a new Oculus Rift virtual reality experiment that is pretty funny and worth checking out. Internet service provider Ume.net is the company behind the experiment where they let people use the Oculus Rift to experience what lag feels like in real life.
The experiment, dubbed “Living with Lag,” has the headset set at one-third of a second delay (~300ms) and then at a full three-second delay to show people what lag feels like when doing different activities. I’m not sure how many broad band users are getting that bad of lag, but this was part of a viral marketing campaign and it clearly went viral with over 1 million views in 48 hours. Ume.net is a fiber rich broadband provider that offers up to 1000 Mbit/s, so they want people to know they offer services that should keep lag to a minimum.
