NVIDIA Unimpressed By AMD’s GCN Architecture

NVIDIA, who has yet to release a video card this year, has issued some fighting words in an interview with Nordic Hardware. NVIDIA has stated “Honestly, we expected more from our competitors new architecture,”. This would potentially mean that AMD’s Radeon HD 7900 performance isn’t where NVIDIA expected it to be, and that NVIDIA’s new architecture could be far more powerful. It seems this stems from NVIDIA’s impression that AMD’s GCN architecture would be faster then it turned out to be. At this point all we can do is take this with a grain of salt, as without a product to compare it’s simply mind games for now.

Even if this is hardly the optimum for NVIDIA they said they were positively surprised by AMD’s launch – for its own account. A high up representative revealed that NVIDIA before the launch had a likely performance estimate of Radeon HD 7900, an estimate that it has been preparing to beat.
