NVIDIA GeForce Titan X 12GB Video Card Announced
We just walked out of Epic Games presentation by Tim Sweeney on the State of Unreal session at GDC and we have some exciting news to bring you from NVIDIA! NVIDIA CES Jen-Hsun Huang made an appearance at the presentation during the part where Mr. Sweeney was saying there is demand for more powerful graphics cards. Jen-Hsun carried in a covered box and said that he was here to answer the call with a new graphics card called Titan X!
The NVIDIA GeForce Titan X has 8 billion transistors and 12GB of GDDR5 memory and is now the flagship desktop graphics card from NVIDIA. It will be used here at GDC to power many of the demanding VR demos that are so popular this year.
No other facts were given on the card, but we are assuming this card is using a new GPU and by that we mean the full Maxell GM200 GPU. The back of the Titan X was not shown, but from the looks of it this is a single-GPU behemoth. The fact that it has dual SLI interconnects is also another good sign that this is GM200 in its entirety.
Jen–Hsun Huang signed the packaging of the first Titan X with a personal message to Tim and gave him the first card.
Everyone was all smiles, but we are left wondering what the price and other specifications were going to be. Jen–Hsun Huang said that all the details would be disclosed at the NVIDIA GPU Tech Conference on March 16th, 2015 in San Jose.
In the mean time we couldn’t pry the Titan X from Tim’s hands and we tried. The message on the retail box was addressed to Tim with love!
UPDATE: we tracked down a GeForce GTX TITAN X and got some hands on time with it here.
