NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 SLI versus ATI Radeon HD 5770 CrossFire Performance Comparison

By

One of the most common graphics setups to have is to run low budget cards in SLI or CrossfireX because you can simply get one of the cheaper cards during the build and upgrade to a second later for greater performance than a more expensive single card. The question then raised is which route to go- NVIDIA SLI or ATI CrossfireX? Well here we have a direct budget comparison with the $130 GeForce GTS 450 and $140 Radeon HD 5770 video cards and the results are pretty surprising! Read on to see how the pairs of video cards performed!

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 and ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video Cards

I will be using reference cards provided to us by both ATI and NVIDIA for testing. A reference clocked GeForce GTS 450 1GB video card runs about $129.99 online, so a set of these cards will cost you about $260 out the door for an SLI configuration. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB video card can be found for $139.99 online, which makes $280 for a CrossFire multi-GPU setup. Both multi-GPU solutions are within $20 of each other and are clearly the enemies if there was ever such a thing for video cards.
