Nox Audio Specialist Gaming Headset Review
Nox Specialist Performance – The Best Gaming Headset Ever?
When we first ran into Nox Audio at this years 2010 E3 Expo in Los Angeles, we had no idea who this company was- let alone what kind of quality the company produced. We give all the credit and have to give it up to the Nox Product Ambassadors who were working the floor. We actually saw them first and somehow they got us to pay attention to the Nox product. After taking photos like we were TMZ, we eventually tried on the Nox headsets.
The Nox Specialist headsets are hands-down the most comfortable headsets we have used for gaming and for PC use ever. In fact, the competition for most bang-for-your-buck is not even close. At $80, these headsets seem like a steal. From the very first moment we tried the headsets on, we knew the Specialist were unique and um, special! Everyone in the Legit Review bunker who has used this headset has said the same thing. You can wear this headset for long periods of time and at the end of the day and the headset would still feel comfortable and not heavy or irritating in the slightest.
Because of the design of the ear muffs or cup, the Specialists end up doing a great job of noise isolation. When you put the Specialist on, the loud world around you you know, the world that doesnt truly understand your eclectic musical tastes or wants to always listen into your Skype chats are shut out. In fact, I used the Specialist on a recent trip and while the Nox headsets didnt completely block out the hum of the jet engines, I didnt need to crank up the volume on my Blackberry and iPad to hear.
The microphone picked up our voice very nicely even though the mic boom didnt go all the way to the front of our mouth. When the microphone was retracted and coiled up, our voice was distant but audible. If you think you might be talking to someone in game or via chatting with you friend on your mobile device, our recommendation is to always extend the boom for maximum sound quality.
We used the headset during a number of different everyday activities and applications; from listening to music, to using Skype and talking with friends, to dictating with Dragons Naturally Speaking software, to hard-core gaming during long StarCraft 2 sessions. In all of the applications we used, the Specialists did very well and surpassed all other headsets in overall sound quality and comfort. Even though the Specialists didn’t take digital source inputs, the sound from the dual drivers in the each was still superb and could really pump the volume.
The only thing that will make you take the Specialist off is if you want to give your ear drum a break. The dual Mylar drivers in the Specialist really do an incredible job of pumping the volume. The overall quality of the sound output is superb. The highs are crisp, and the bottom is heavy. In fact, Ive officially retired a number of headsets and ear buds in my arsenal because the Nox Specialists are that good. The only thing that concerns me is that the cushy ear pads seem to be covered by a thin fabric that can get snagged or ripped if you just throw the headsets in a bag. Make sure you use the Nox headset case to protect your investment.
They are simply one of the best headsets we have ever used. I have been set free now that I no longer need to have a $200, 5-pound brick sitting on my ears and head. You dont have to trade comfort for sound quality any further. One of the best things about getting all of this comfort and sound quality is that you can grab the headsets up for well under $100. Nox gives the Specialist a nice warrant with an initial 30-day No questions asked money-back guarantee and a hefty 2-year warranty covering defects.
Legit Bottom Line:
The $80 Nox Specialist Gaming Headsets are easily one of the best gaming headsets that we have used. The comfort level, sound quality, and microphone quality are far superior to almost every headset on the market today.
