Nintendo Wii Loses Video Streaming Capability in January
Nintendo Wii users who are holding onto the console this long after the Wii was replaced by the Wii U and then the Switch are likely using the device mostly for video streaming. That will come to an end in a few months as the shutdown for the Wii Shop is happening at the end of January.
When the Wii Shop shuts down, video streaming services will no longer function. That means no more Netflix or Hulu on the Wii. The end of support for the Wii was confirmed by Netflix recently in an email it sent out to customers reports The Verge.
The end of support is set for January 31, 2019. After that, the console will function for physical games that you own, but nothing else it seems. The sad part is that despite the popularity of the Nintendo Switch, it still lacks all the streaming options that users want.
It doesn’t support Netflix but does support YouTube and other services. Support for YouTube was announced earlier this month.
