Nintendo Switch Was 2018’s Top Selling Console

Sales of the Nintendo Switch is still booming although the console has been around a long time now. Numbers from The NPD Group has shown that the Switch was the best-selling console in December 2018. The figures show that the Switch was the best selling console of 2018.

That means it outsold both the PS4 and the Xbox One. The big boost in sales for the Switch came when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launched and brought new players to the ecosystem. One key factoid here is that the Switch had the best December of any console of this generation.

“Nintendo Switch generated the highest December-month hardware dollar sales for a single platform since the Nintendo Wii in December 2009,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said. “And it achieved the highest December unit sales for a single platform since December 2010.”

As for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the game had the best launch month of any console exclusive since NPD started tracking that information in the ’90s reports VentureBeat. The Switch is printing money for Nintendo.
