Nintendo Brags About 10 Million Switch Consoles Sold
Nintendo announced this week that sales of the Switch game console have hit a record. The console has officially sold 10 million units globally. The console launched in March and the question in many minds is how many consoles could Nintendo have sold if it could have met demand.
Switch consoles have been hard to find since launch leading many people to pay scalpers much more than the retail price for one. Nintendo thinks that the key to the sales success for the console is the fact that it is a hybrid system able to be played as a console at home and a portable on the go.
Those are certainly features that many gamers like. First party games that are only on the Switch and are very popular are also another key to Nintendo’s success. If you want to play Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, or Mario Kart 8 you must buy the Switch.
Nintendo also has the robust support of third-party games, something that the Wii U never really had. “As you can see in peoples living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The response from fans has been great, and were doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”
