Niantic Settles Suits Over Pokmon Go Suits for $1.575 Million
If you are a big fan of Pokmon Go and headed out to the big Pokmon Go festival in Chicago’s Grant Park when it was held last year, you were probably disappointed. The problem was that all the people who turned up were unable to do much of anything because of cellular connectivity issues and logistical problems. The game wouldn’t run, and things fell apart for Niantic and fans of the AR game.
Niantic announced that it would be refunding ticket costs and giving players $100 of in-game currency as a sorry for the hassle and failure, but that didnt stop the suits. People were unhappy because about 20,000 folks tried to participate and has spent money on hotels and transportation among other things.
Niantic is setline a class action suit focusing on the festival by paying out $1,575,000 for various costs that attendees paid out. The money will be used to pay folks back for airfare, hotels, and up to two days of parking fees, car rentals, mileage, and tolls.
The official website for the settlement will be live by May 25 and attendees will get an email to let them know the site is up. The catch is that to get any money back, you had to have checked in to GO Fest through the game and if you have more than $107 in expenses you need receipts. Any money not paid out will be donated to charity, Niantic gets none of it back reports TechCrunch.
