New Professional Chipsets

Before NVIDIA introduces to the world their venture into Intel-based chipsets, NVIDIA is making a move today to further grasp their hold on the AMD market with a new release in the nForce Professional chipset series for servers and workstations. Today we are going to give you the rundown on the new NVIDIA nForce Professional 2200/NVIDIA nForce Professional 2050 chipsets. These two new chipsets will work together to replace the 21 month old nForce3 Professional 250 and nForce3 Professional chipsets with a nice “refresh” in technology!

The NVIDIA nForce Professional 2200 and 2050 chipsets bring to the table features like Dual GPU Support (Including SLI for Quadro Graphics Cards), PCI Express, nForce Mediashield Professional Storage, ActiveArmor Secure Networking Engine, Native Gigabyte Ethernet, SATA-II with Native Command Queuing and Hot Plug, 20 configurable PCI Express lanes per chips with 4 controllers (for servers), and of course Multiple CPU support.

According to the information we have received from NVIDIA, each nForce Professional 2200 MCP has the capability to be matched with up to three of the nForce Professional 2050 chipsets on a single board. It is when these two chipsets are at least paired together that the Dual GPU (SLI) feature becomes available. Now let’s go into a little more detail about the new technologies being offered by the new nForce Professional MCPs!

Update: NVIDIA contacted us to let us know that RAID 5 is also supported on the 2200 and 2050. They also didn’t hesitate to point out that when the 2200 is matched with three 2050’s, the RAID array can be spanned across 16 drives!
