Nexuiz: A Stylish New Take on the Arena FPS Game

By

There is an interesting new PC game coming out soon on Steam: Nexuiz. Developed by Illfonic and published by THQ, it claims to reinvent arena first person shooter gameplay and is reminiscent of the popular Unreal Tournament series, with similar features and storyline of alien warriors being forced to fight to the death in various ubercool arenas. This is no bad thing though, as UT is excellent and this game appears to have taken the fast, twitchy gameplay which is the hallmark of UT and made a new version that’s well worth playing.

Built on the impressive CryENGINE 3 that Crysis 2 is built on and the visuals have a very slick, illuminated Tron-style look to them. It features over 100 “Dynamic Mutators”, such as Jetpacks, Uber-Nuke, Low Gravity, Big Head Mode and many more. The game supports Steam Achievements, Steam Leaderboards, Steam Cloud, Stats and is controller enabled. It has 9 arenas that can be played solo or in 4v4 multiplayer matches. It also includes various electronic soundtracks to complement its frantic pace of gameplay.

System requirements are modest and it uses DX9.0c, so it should play fast and smooth on any PC with a half-decent graphics card and a recent processor.

It offers all this at a small price too: full price is $9.99 (7.99 UK) currently discounted 10% to $8.99 (7.19 UK) until release day. This is a Steam exclusive release no retail disc version with the Steam store page here. Download file size is 3GB and the game’s website is at:
