Next Generation of Microsoft Surface Available for Pre-Order

Samsung and Microsoft announced yesterday that the next generation of Microsoft Surface is now available for pre-order through Samsung resellers in 23 countries worldwide including the United States. Initially unveiled by Samsung and Microsoft earlier this year, the Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface features PixelSense technology, which gives LCD panels the power to see without the use of cameras. The product uses an embedded AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-Core Processor running 2.9GHz paired with AMD HD6750M GPU featuring DirectX 11 support. The 40-inch surface is just four inches thick and has a resolution of 1920×1080. Pricing is $8,400 USD for just the display unit and $9,049 with the legs as shown in the photo below. It is being sold without the legs for customers who are building a tabletop or display furniture around the SUR40. Samsung will start shipping the pre-orders to customers in early January around the CES 2012 time frame.

Microsoft Surface provides business customers a premier touch-first experience for their end-users, built on the principles of direct interaction and together computing, with a new look and feel. It also allows commercial application developers to use a new version of the Microsoft Surface SDK and familiar Microsoft development tools to take full advantage of the massive multi-touch and object recognition capabilities of PixelSense and deliver experiences not possible on any other platform.
