New iPod Touch Packs A10 Fusion SoC

It’s been a while since we’ve thought about an iPod, after all, we all have smartphones these days so what’s the point. Apple hasn’t forgotten about the iPod line and has announced an iPod touch upgrade. The newly updated device now uses the A10 Fusion SoC.

Other than the new hardware inside, the iPod touch looks pretty much the same. It has a 4-inch screen, classic home button, and comes in different color options. This is the first update for the Touch since 2015.

The updated chip doesn’t bring Face ID or Touch ID to the mix. The new Touch does support iOS 12 and now supports ARKit apps and group FaceTime conversations. This may still be a good product for those not wanting to take their $1000 plus iPhone to the gym or for parents not wanting their kids to have a cell phone, but who are willing to let them play games and listen to music.

The iPod touch starts at $199 for 32GB of storage, $299 for 128GB of storage, and $399 for 256GB of storage. The device is offered in six colors and will be on the Apple website today to purchase.
