NBA and Player’s Union License NBA 2K for $1.1B
Sports games are very popular for consoles and PC platforms. One of the most popular is the NBA basketball game NBA 2K from Take-Two Interactive Software. With the game being so popular there is huge money that goes into the licensing deals behind the game.
The NBA and NBA Player’s Union have announced that they have signed a licensing deal that is worth $1.1 billion for NBA 2K. The deal is said to be good for seven years. That gigantic sum of money allows NBA 2K to continue to use NBA branding and player likenesses.
NBA 2K franchise games are the third best seller in the gaming industry, ahead of Madden NFL. The franchise has sold 86 million units over 17-years and was the top NBA video game for those years reports Yahoo Sports.
The last edition of the game sold 10 million copies. Take-Two doesn’t have an exclusive deal in place with the NBA; other game publishers can pay for licensing of the same sort if they want.
