MSI 790FX-GD70 Socket AM3 Motherboard Review

As with all the other 790FX boards, we had high hopes for the MSI 790FX-GD70. The 790FX, when paired with our triple-core CPU has provided us with some great overclocks. We followed our typical overclocking rituals, and after about 15 minutes or so, we raised the vcore up to 1.45v. When we did that, we got a “pop” from the board, and then the all-too familiar smell of electrical death was in the air… we killed the board before we got to do too much with it in overclocking at all. It looks like we blew up a voltage regulator, but luckily it didn’t harm the processor when it blew up. Due to this component failure, we have no overclocking results for you today. Hopefully we can get a replacement board in house here soon and do a follow-up on overclocking with the MSI 790FX-GD70 board in the future.
