Motorola XOOM 4G LTE Upgrade Finally Available Today

By

Verizon and Motorola today announced that the Motorola XOOM 4G LTE upgrade is finally available for existing Motorola XOOM customers! Motorola will start stocking store shelves with already updated Motorola XOOM 4G LTE tablets beginning on Oct. 13 for $499.99 with a new two-year contract. The Motorola Xoom was released on February 24th and was launched as a 3G device that was upgradeable to 4G LTE. I don’t think that anyone would have expected it to take nearly eight months for this update to get here! In order to do the update you’ll have to send your XOOM back to Motorola and you can expect to get it back in approximately six business days. You can sign-up for the upgrade here. Motorola sounds like they feel a little bad about the long wait though as they are tossing in Motorola Standard Dock for XOOM, which normally retails for $45. There is no additional cost for the 4G LTE upgrade, so if you can be without your XOOM for a bit you can get a free upgrade (yes, shipping is free even) and a free standard dock out of the deal. Faster speeds and connections enhance the Motorola XOOM experience, allowing customers to download songs in seconds and movies in minutes. Customers should expect average download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage areas. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, the Motorola XOOM automatically connects to the Verizon Wireless 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
