More AMD HD 7990 Details leak: Eyefinity 6 Capability

By

As we edge closer to the (pushed back) release date of AMD’s upcoming HD 7990, more and more tidbits of information emerge. The four 6-pin power connectors that we previously reported feed multiphase power regulation circuitry, which consists of the following main groups: Tahiti XT GPU, 3GB GDDR5 memory per core (clocked at 1.5GHz) and the PLX PCIe 3.0 controller.

Also, the card has six display outputs, like the HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition. These comprise of four mini-DisplayPort and two DVI connectors. The HD 7990 will support PCIe 3.0 along with daisychaining displays using a DisplayPort breakout box (MST Hub). The card will replace the HD 6990 as AMD’s best and be more competitively priced than NVIDIA’s GTX 690. The card is now expected to debut at GamesCon in Germany around the middle of August. This card should give some much needed competition to NVIDIA’s finest.
