Microsoft’s $99 Xbox 360 Offer

Confirming previous rumours, Microsoft has now revealed it’s $99 Xbox 360 4GB offer on its Microsoft Store website. For this price you get a Kinect included, plus the buyer must sign up for a two year Xbox Live Gold Membership contract for $14.99 per month.

Note though, that the low $99 upfront cost is offset by a higher overall cost – there’s no free lunch here. Just buying the Xbox 360 4GB with a Kinect costing about $300 together and then separately subscribing to an Xbox Live Gold contract will cost an overall $420. However, taking up the offer, will end up costing another $40, making the overall cost $460. This might be acceptable if one wants to pay a much smaller upfront fee, so it can just be considered as a very cheap loan. However, the ramifications of any deal should be fully understood before making any purchase.
