Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is Easy To Fix
Microsoft had promised that the Surface Laptop 3 would be easy to take apart. The Surface Laptop 3 is easier to repair than past generations if it needs fixing. iFixit has torn down the new Surface Laptop 3. Taking the device apart is as easy as removing Torx Plus screws from the bottom. The entire lid of the laptop lifts off with an easy prying motion.
The cover is attached with magnets and a single flex cable. Charging the SSD is easy with a single Torx Plus screw securing it. Remove that screen, and the SSD slides out for easy upgrading.
The hardest part to replace is the battery because it is glued down. The Surface Laptop 3 received a repairability score of 5 out of 10. That isn’t perfect, but it’s much better than past models.
The Surface Laptop 2 had a repairability rating of 0/10 for comparison. Easier repairability doesn’t mean Microsoft wants owners opening the machines up. It still warns against repair by the user saying to take it to a technician to maintain the warranty.
