Microsoft Surface Devices Regain Consumer Reports’ Recommended Rating
Microsoft and consumer Reports have bene in a tussle over the coveted Recommended rating that CR gives out to products it likes. CR famously denied all Surface devices that rating much to the chagrin of Microsoft. Things are changing with Consumer Reports now offering a Recommended rating for most Surface devices.
We say most because the new and very slick Surface Go didnt get the nod from CR. The loss of the Recommended rating had to do with poor predicted reliability compared to other laptop brands. An improvement in the reliability of new generation of Surface machines meant regaining Recommended status reports Thurrott.
The change at CR apparently comes from new surveys of its readers and their Surface devices that show reliability is much better. CR wrote, “The Surface Pro (2017), Surface Laptop, and Surface Book 2 do score well enough to be recommended.”
As for why the Surface Go lacks this coveted rating, apparently, that comes down to poor performance and battery life. Cr wrote, “Why did the Surface Go fall short of being recommended? Mainly because its performance falls below what consumers can find in a number of other laptops, which can result in some lag when performing tasks like cycling through different windows, the publication reports.” Apparently, CR isn’t happy with the processing power of the Go in LAPTOP testing. Since the Go isnt a laptop and is more a tablet is it really fair to compare it to laptops?
