Microsoft ponders multiple Longhorns

SOFTWARE FIRM Microsoft is gazing at its navel pondering how to release its long awaited next generation of operating system codenamed Longhorn.

According to Information Week, here, the ever expanding Vole hill at Redmond is all a twitter with a cunning plan that will see multiple versions of Longhorn being freed on a bemused public.

Microsoft “insider” Paul Thurrott, who publishes the SuperSite for Windows Web site, claims that Longhorn will ship in seven versions of the operating system in late May 2006.

There will be a Starter (read cheap cut-down) edition, Home, Premium/Media, Professional, Small Business, Mobility/Tablet PC, and a bridges product between the consumer and business versions.”
