Microsoft Extends Windows Vista & Windows 7 Support To Ten Years

By

Software giant Microsoft Corp. has decided to update its support policy for Windows Vista and Windows 7. The company will be extending support on the operating systems to ten full years from their release dates. Microsoft previously had a 5 year “mainstream support” policy for consumer operating systems, with businesses getting 5 years of extended support. At this juncture, both operating systems will now continue to see security updates for some time, with Windows Vista seeing consumer support extended to April 11th, 2017 and Windows 7 support lasting until January 14th, 2020. This change definitely shows Microsoft is fully committed to its 10-year support cycle.

This month, with almost no fanfare, Microsoft has revised its support policy for consumer versions of Windows so that they qualify for extended support as well. If you go to the Support Lifecycle home page and search for a product family, you get new results for Windows Vista and Windows 7 that include Extended Support end dates for consumer versions of both products.
