Microsoft Calls for Beta Testers for Chromium-powered Edge Browser

Microsoft finally threw in the towel and realized it wasn’t going to beat Google Chrome in the browser wars. Within the last few months, the software giant announced it was ditching that rendering engine.

In a true “if you can’t beat them” moment, Microsft announced that it would be moving the next generation of Edge to Chromium as the rendering engine. This move didn’t sit well with Mozilla as it claimed that Microsoft was handing Google more control over the internet.

Microsoft has now announced that it is registering beta testers to get in on the Chromium-powered Edge browser first. The new browser promises improved compatibility with websites, easier support for developers, and support for Chrome plugins.

It doesn’t appear that users have to be on the Windows Insider program to participate in the Edge beta reports MSPowerUser. That means no flaky Windows software crashing your PC, just the potential for a flakey browser that crashes. Sign up for the Edge Insider program here.
