Mac OS X Lion to support TRIM

By

The initial developer build of Mac OS X Lion appears to have a golden nugget. If it makes it through to be present in the final release, it appears that OS X will finally support TRIM (collective cheer!). TRIM is a function that is issued to solid state drives to clean up unused blocks of data which can ultimately lead to a performance decline if left unchecked. Windows 7 has supported TRIM since it was rolled out and there has been much clamoring amongst the Mac faithful to add the functionality.

Mac OS X Lion TRIM

As noted by MacGeneration [Google translation], Apple has added TRIM support in this initial developer build of Mac OS X Lion. TRIM support provides for optimization of solid-state drives by cleaning up unused blocks of data and preparing them for rewriting, preventing slowdowns that would otherwise occur over time as garbage data accumulates.
