Lollipop Coming to the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Soon – We Have Lollipops To Prove It!

NVIDIA has been busy updating the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet this month. Last week the NVIDIA SHIELD Team rolled out the v1.2.1 update that fixed a few issues that owners were complaining about. For example the October 20th update improved WiFi performance on the 5GHz band, fixed an intermittent charging issue and provided performance performance optimizations for encrypted devices. This OTA update was small in the big picture, but the fixes will most certainly help those that were having WiFi or charging issues and will be a welcome relief.

NVIDIA has much bigger plans for the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet though as they will soon be releasing the Android 5.0 ‘Lollipop’ update for the tablet, which we told you about a two weeks ago. We just received an overnight package with some goodies from NVIDIA to let us know that Lollipop is coming very soon.

Inside the package was a glass jar adorned with a green NVIDIA ribbon and some lollipops, an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet cover with the Android 5.0 Lollipop motif laser etched in it and a card from our friends at NVIDIA.

The personalized card said that NVIDIA had us covered on Lollipop and that we should have some real lollipops while they are getting everything buttoned up on the big upcoming Android 5.0 software release. Google announced Android Lollipop on October 15th, 2014 and it has a radical new design with over 5,000 new APIs. Google believes that the OS will help Android expand better beyond the smartphone market to wearable gadgets, car interfaces and beyond by bringing consistency to the OS and the Apps run on it no matter what device you are on. The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet was designed to be a powerful and robust gaming tablet thanks to the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor that can do pretty much everything one asks of it while asking for more, so it would be ideal device to run Android 5.0 Lollipop on.
