Lego updates their programmable robotics

By

Wired has posted a sneak-preview article from its February 2006 issue about how Lego used 4 of their Lego Mindstorm’s biggest fans to revamp their programmable robotic product. For us hardware junkies, the original Mindstorm set used an 8-bit processor. The new Mindstorm NXT’s use a 32-bit processor to function as the ‘brain’ of the creation. These blocks are able to be programmed to perform certain operations by connecting them to your computer. Very interesting read if you get the chance… but set aside some time in order to get through all 5 pages at once!

Lego built a global empire out of little plastic blocks, then conquered the wired world with a robot kit called Mindstorms. So when the time came for an upgrade, they turned to their obsessed fans — and rewrote the rules of the innovation game.
