Leaked: Upcoming Motorola Mobility Smartphone to Feature Edge-to-Edge Display & LTE

By

Motorola Mobility, which was acquired by Google back in May for about $12.5 billion, has scheduled a press conference on September 5 in New York, together with Verizon, the largest US carrier. Unsurprisingly for such a prestigious press event, this is to be the company’s highest profile product announcement since being acquired by Google.

However, we don’t have to wait to learn about this new product, since an anonymous source familiar with the product has leaked some basic information about it for us. Firstly, its standout feature will be an edge-to-edge display, quite literally covering the whole front of the device. This maximizes the screen area by eliminating the bezel around it, not to mention likely to give it a very modern, hot look. No other production smartphone has ever been built like this, so this feature should make it a very interesting product, helping it to stand out from the crowd in the competitive world of smartphones.

Other features are the Android operating system (version not revealed) which is unsurprising, since this is Google’s intellectual property, plus support for Verizon LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless networking, making for very fast download speeds. Verizon has the largest LTE network in the US.

Other events happening this month are Nokia’s unveiling of Windows 8 phones on September 5 and Apple’s alleged launch of the ‘iPhone 5’ on September 12.
