Kingston SSDNow V310 960GB SSD Review
SSD Power Consumption Testing
Having low power consumption is important to many enthusiasts and while the Kingston SSDNow V310 960GB drive is considered a budget drive we figured that some people would still like to know what the drive is using. The Kingston specifications state that this drive has the following power consumption ratings:
- 0.08 W Idle
- 1.28 W Avg
- 1.16 W (MAX) Read
- 5.39 W (MAX) Write
That is a very impressive idle power measurement for a drive that doesn’t have the ability to do DevSleep, but the maximum write power number is certainly on the high side. We measured the power at idle and load power states using both sequential and random read/write test data.
When it comes to an idle power state we were very shocked to see the Kingston SSDNow V310 960GB drive using just 0.31 Watts of power. When it comes to peak power we found the drive hit 5.38 Watts during sequential write operations, which makes this one of the more power hungry SSDs out there. Having an SSD that pulls 1 Amp of power on the 5V power rail might not be ideal for notebook users that are looking for the ultimate battery life, but won’t impact desktop users one bit.
