By

Kingston today announced it is shipping the HyperX SSD, its first SATA Rev. 3.0 6Gb/s solid-state drive. The Kingston HyperX SSD features the latest SandForce SF-2281 controller and is designed for enthusiasts, gamers and performance users. The Kingston HyperX SSD was originally supposed to launch on July 11, 2011, but was delayed for unknown reasons. We also noticed that Kingston has increased the sequential read/write speeds on the drive since it was first announced back in June. The new speed ratings are up to 555MB/s read and 510MB/s write. These are enthusiast class drives and are backed by a three year warranty. The bare drives will cost $269.99 for 120GB and $499.99 for a 240GB model.

Kingston HyperX SSD

Kingston’s HyperX SSD combines the latest SandForce controller technology with premium NAND Flash, reducing load times while increasing performance and endurance. It provides high-speed SATA Rev 3.0 (6 Gb/s) transfer speeds for larger bandwidth, which power users require for advanced gaming, multitasking and multimedia computing power. Kingston’s HyperX SSD lets users load games and applications faster, increase frames per second (FPS) and quickly transfer and edit large media files. It’s cool, silent and requires less power and no additional cooling requirements. When configuring the HyperX SSD partition, the user can choose between having the maximum available capacity for data storage or giving up a little space to increase performance and endurance. This additional space is called over provisioning1 on an SSD.
