Kingston Launches First HyperX SSD – Uses SandForce SF-2281 Controller

By

Kingston today announced it has teamed up with SandForce to launch its first SATA III (6Gb/s) based SSD targeted at enthusiasts, gamers, and performance users. The drive will also use the famed HyperX nomenclature, which means that this is the best of the best and will be the flagship SSD line for the company. In peak operating conditions you can expect sequential read speeds of 525MB/s and write speeds of 480MB/s. These are enthusiast class speeds and are backed by a three year warranty and legendary Kingston 24/7 support. Kingston will be offering the drives as a bundle with the HyperX Upgrade Kit for easy installation or stand-alone. You’ll have to wait a month to get one though as they aren’t shipping until July 11, 2011. The Kingston HyperX SSD also has a unique look to it as it is one of the only black and blue SSDs that we’ve ever seen!

Kingston HyperX SSD

This launch is very exciting for us at Kingston. The SandForce controller allows us to deliver the high-end performance that is needed for power-users, gamers, and enthusiasts, said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. Integrating a final production quality controller and firmware, and undergoing extensive testing has been an exacting process, but well worth the wait. By pairing SandForces latest controller with Intel 25nm compute NAND (P/E 5K), we have built an SSD that meets the requirements set by true enthusiasts.
