Kingston HyperX Blu 1600MHz 16GB (2x8GB) Memory Kit Review
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
The Kingston HyperX Blu 16Gb memory that we looked at today was Kingston’s first 16Gb kit that is only two modules. Since the initial release of the Kingston HyperX Blu 16Gb kit they have upped the ante with other 16Gb kit’s in their other product lines.
- HyperX Predator – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3 2133MHz CL11 DIMM
- HyperX Predator – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3 1866MHz CL9 DIMM
- HyperX red – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3 1600MHz CL10 DIMM
- Genesis – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3 1600MHz CL9 DIMM
- PnP – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3 1600MHz CL9 SODIMM
- LoVo – 16GB Kit (2x8GB) – DDR3L 1600MHz CL10 DIMM
While 8Gb memory modules are at the top of the pecking order right now, by no means is 16Gb the limit. Kingston has memory kits that go all the way up to 64Gb (8x8Gb) in their Genesis product line. No matter what your need’s Kingston has a kit for you.
Back to the matter at hand, the Kingston HyperX Blu memory kits are essentially the entry level HyperX product. Does that mean they aren’t top of the line? Not at all! For the average user that is looking for great bang for the buck the Kingston HyperX Blu memory modules are a great buy. Our 16Gb kit today was holding it’s own against the Corsair Vengeance memory kit. The tighter timings of the Corsair vengeance gave it a very slight edge, at least until we started to overclock the memory. The Kingston HyperX Blu 16Gb memory kit was very easy to overclock today.
With only a few minor tweaks in the ASRock Z77E-ITX Intel Z77 UEFI BIOS we were able to increase the memory frequency from 1600MHz, to 1818MHz! While it may not be setting any records, a 13% overclock isn’t to shabby on what is the entry level Kingston HyperX product.
One of the great things about all of the memory from Kingston is that it features a lifetime warranty! As an added bonus we also get lifetime customer support! If you ever have questions or issues with your memory Kingston has you covered no matter how old your memory is. It wasn’t that long ago that memory prices spiked, fortunately prices have come down again and the Kingston HyperX Blu 16Gb memory kit is available for as little as $79.74 shipped! The lowest priced 16GB (2x8Gb) memory kit on Newegg is Kingston Value RAM with CL11 timings for $74.99 shipped. The Kingston HyperX Blu memory kit that we looked at here today costs about $5 more, but it comes with heat spreaders and tighter CL10 memory timings. The Kingston HyperX Blu KHX16C10B1K2/16X memory kit is easily recommended as it performs great, overclocks and the price is right.
Legit Bottom Line: The Kingston HyperX Blu KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G 16Gb memory kit was rock solid throughout our testing. Some may say that 16Gb of memory is to much, but I would rather have it and not need, than need it and not have it!
