Is DIGG Over? Washington Post Ready To Buy Digg Technology Team

By

Digg isn’t done yet, but the companies technical staff are being hired by the Washington Post, according to sources familiar with the situation. It appears that built the Washington Post is in the process of buying/hiring the news aggregators technology team to develop the companies Social Reader App for Facebook. But, and here is the rub, the Washington Post isnt purchasing the business itself and that leaves a huge question mark hanging over the future of one of DIGG in general. Could one of the largest and most successful Web 2.0 companies soon be a thing of the past? It looks like the site will continue operation for now, but its days appear numbered.

Once the deal closes, Digg wont shut down, at least not immediately. The sites remaining management will try to figure out how to take advantage of its brand name and traffic, according to people familiar with the company. But given the fact that Digg has been looking for a buyer for months, its hard to see how theyll be able to find another home for the remainder of the company.
