By

Fresh out of PAX Prime 2011, where an NVIDIA sponsored Battlefield 3 tournament is raging, GeForce.com’s Kris Rey had an on camera chat with DICE Producer Patrick Liu to talk about all things Battlefield 3 including the superb graphics and how they are leveraging DirectX 11. Of course, the topic of tessellation comes up for which Liu states tessellation is so sexy!. They weren’t able to get any solid information about what the system requirements will be as many are wondering what kind of monster rig will be required to turn on all of the eye candy. I guess we’ll have to continue to wait and see – save your pennies!

Getting straight down to business, Patrick spoke of Frostbite 2, the engine powering Battlefield 3s fantastic visuals: We added a ton of stuff we basically rewrote the rendering engine from scratch to add real-time radiosity on the PC it produces amazing indoor lighting for the scale of the maps we implemented new streaming technology, so we make bigger maps than we have ever been able to before.
