Intel’s move to 45nm will bring 6MB of Cache on Desktop CPU’s
By
You think 2MB of cache on a CPU is enough? Looks like some Intel roadmaps are talking about 6MB of cache on 45nm CPU’s by 2008. Recent months have proved that Intel’s roadmap can change on short notice, so don’t make any bets on this.
‘Wolfdale’ and ‘Ridgefield’, for example, two dual-core, single-die desktop chips due 2008, will have 3MB and 6MB of cache each. These should appear alongside ‘Perryville’ and ‘Penryn’, respectively single-core and dual-core mobile parts, the former with 2MB of cache, according to the report, the latter with 3MB and 6MB of L2.
