Intel X58 Replacement Coming in Q4 2011 – Called X79

By

When a new chipset or processor socket change comes people always moan about how they come so fast and that they are sick of paying for something that is always changing. Keeping that in mind, it’s hard to believe that the Intel X58 Express chipset has been out since Q4 2008! We all knew that it would have to be replaced at some point and it looks lie that time is coming in Q4 2011 as that is when the X79 chipset is released. Having the flagship socket and chipset remained unchanged for three years is pretty darn good if you ask me, but X58 is starting to show signs of aging and does need to be put out to pasture. A leaked roadmap shows that the X79 will be the top dog and that mainstream platforms will also be refreshed again in early 2012 when the Ivy Bridge refresh happens. Those new chipsets wll be the Z77, Z75 and H79 if the roadmap below is true.

Intel X79 Express Chipset

The Intel X79 (codenamed Patsburg) is an Intel chip designed to connect Intel processors with a DMI interface to peripheral devices. Initially supported processors are the Core i7.
