Intel SSD 710 Series Coming Out This Month For Enterprise Customers

By

Rumor has it that Intel’s enterprise-class SSD 710 (Lyndonville) series of Solid-State Drives will be launching sometime later this month. These drives are meant for the enterprise market where SLC-level endurance is needed, but at a more affordable price, so these drives are using 25nm eMLC HET NAND. When it comes to pricing these drives are still expensive, but remember they are aimed at enterprise users and not desktop users:

  • Intel SSD 710 100GB: ~$650
  • Intel SSD 710 200GB: ~$1250
  • Intel SSD 710 300GB: ~$1900

These prices might give you sticker shock, but they are roughly half the price per-gigabyte when compared to the current Intel X25-E series! They are also slightly faster for sustained read (270 MB/s) and write (210 MB/s) speeds!

Intel SSD Roadmap

The SSD 710 supports user-configurable overprovisioning (20%), which increases drive endurance significantly. The SSD 710’s warranty is 3 years or until a wear indicator reaches a certain level, whichever comes first. This is the first time we’ve seen SSD warranty limited in this manner. Oddly enough, the consumer-level SSD 320 has a longer 5-year warranty without any such limitations.
