Intel Returns to the Graphics Card Game with Larrabee

By

News is starting to trickle out of the Intel camp about their new multi-core x86 architecture for “Visual Computing” dubbed “Larrabee”. Even though details are scarce (for now), we know that the Larrabee family of multi-core chips will be originally aimed at the PC graphics market including Windows and Macintosh desktops as well as handhelds and supercomputers. For sure, more information is to come on this new architecture.

[Intel] will not yet go into the raw performance and feature set of said products, nor is it revealing the actual final number of cores that will be in shipping products. There’s no mention of memory sizes, types, or bandwidth. Details about the new vector instruction set and the like are coming later, too.
