Intel Release Slew of Midrange and Budget CPUs
Intel have released a slew of new processors in the Celeron, Pentium and Core i3/i5 ranges and priced from $37 to $177. Most of them are based on the latest 22nm Tri-Gate transistor Ivy Bridge core, with the exception of the Celeron range and some of the Pentium models, which are based on the previous 32nm Sandy Bridge core.
All Core i3 & i5 CPUs are based on Ivy Bridge. Interestingly, the Core i3 dual core models all feature Hyper Threading, while the Core i5 quad core models don’t, making all the CPUs present four threads to the operating system. Also, none of the Core i3 models feature Turbo Boost, while the Core i5 models do. The basic specs for each model are listed below.
Today’s launch also includes several quad-core Ivy Bridge microprocessors from Core i5 family. These chips have larger 6 MB L3 cache than Core i3s. The new i5s have a bit lower clock speeds than quad-core Ivy Bridge CPUs, that were launched earlier this year, however they also a few dollars cheaper. Most interesting SKUs are Core i5-3335S with HD 4000 graphics, and Core i5-3350P with disabled GPU. Two other models, i5-3330 and i5-3330S, have HD 2500 graphics. The power ratings of i5 processors range from 65 Watt to 77 Watt TDP, and the parts are priced from $177 to $194.
