Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs.
Benchmark Results: The Intel Core i7 990X Extreme dominated the field in 7-Zip! During the Decompressing phase of the 7-Zip benchmark the 990X completed 32091 MIPs while the second performer, the 2600K completed only 22198 MIPs. That’s a difference of 44.6%. The 990X was able to hit 29973 MIPs during the compressing tests while the 2600K was able to hit 22508 MIPs which is a difference of 33.2%.
