Intel Compute Stick Will Turn Any TV With HDMI Into A PC
Legit Reviews got a chance to check out the Intel Compute Stick at CES 2015, which is a small device that transforms any HDMI display into a fully functional computer. Intel says that the Compute Stick is a next generation compute-on-a-stick device thats ready-to-go out-ofthe-box. This is because the HDMI 1.4a dongle comes pre-installed with either Windows 8.1 for $149 or Linux at $89.
No matter what OS you go with you’ll get a potent little portable system thanks to the use of a quad-core Intel Atom Bay Trail processor, 2GB of memory (RAM) and 32GB of on-board storage. Wireless connectivity is handled by an integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi card that also supports Bluetooth 4.0. The Linux version comes lesser hardware though as it has just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Not bad for an ultra-small four inch long device! Intel says that the Compute Stick should handle light productivity, social networking, web browsing, and streaming media, such as Netflix, Hulu, or games.
It should be noted that the Intel Compute Stick gets its power from a USB 2.0 port and through the HDMI connection. Intel hopes to be able to fully power the Compute Stick through the HDMI port on the TV down the road. Intel hopes that the Compute Stick will be available to purchase on the market in March 2015. That is pretty close to the Microsoft Windows 10 being released and we are curious if Intel will have a version supporting the latest Windows OS.
Could this be your next home theater PC ?
