How To Install AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors On X399 Boards

MSI has posted a YouTube video that shows how to install one of upcoming AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor resides in AMD’s new TR4 socket on AMD X399 boards and it is unlike anything seen in the consumer space before. Rather than having the usual single- or dual-lever system, the TR4 socket is secures Ryzen Threadripper using a flip-up retaining mechanism that is secured with three screws. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor appears that it will ship mounted on an orange plastic cartridge and that stays on the processor. The Ryzen Threadripper slides down into the retention tray mechanism and clicks into it when it is fully seated as seen in the video published below. This cassette tape style installation is unique, but looks easy to do.
