HP Buying Autonomy, Discontinuing WebOS

By

Hewlett-Packard has agreed to buy Autonomy Corp. for $10.3 billion. Autonomy is a British company that makes database-search software. Hewlett-Packard also said that it is considering spinning off its PC division and that it will discontinue products that run webOS software, including the TouchPad. By discontinuing webOS products, the company is obviously not planning on using webOS software on every HP computer like the company stated it would earlier this year.

HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.
