HBO and Cinemax Come to Amazon Prime – Cable Cutting War Continues

By

More great news this week for cord cutters as Amazon Prime subscribers will now be able to access programming from HBO and Cinemax. HBO will be available on Prime for $14.99 a month, while the Cinemax add-on will cost $9.99 a month, Amazon said in a press release that went out on the wire today. HBO Now is already available for the same price, but this can be seen as a way to consolidate bills and as an incentive to subscribe to Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime is also available on more devices than HBO Now, so this will be great news for people with older devices that weren’t compatible with HBO Now. Amazon Channels now offers over 70 additional add-on packs for Prime video subscribers, beyond what they can access for no additional charge as part of their existing Prime subscription.

HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history. Their selection of blockbuster movies is unsurpassed, including hits like Batman vs. Superman, The Revenant, and Deadpool. And, our customers have been asking when all that wonderful content will be available on Amazon Channels, said Michael Paull, Vice President, Digital Video, Amazon. Prime members can now watch the latest episodes of the critically-acclaimed Westworld and Game of Thrones without the need for a cable subscription. Were thrilled to work with HBO to bring their cutting-edge content to Amazon Prime members with Amazon Channels.

Amazon Prime Video HBO

This news comes just after AT&T’s new streaming service was announced, DirecTV Now, that will also bring HBO and Cinemax into more households. This addition will bolster Amazons channels it offers as it already includes popular channels like Showtime, Starz, and Comedy Central Stand-Up, among others. All of the services come with their own monthly pricing and users can choose to sign up for one, some, or all. The service works on more than 650 devices and free trials are available on all the networks.

Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial on both HBO and Cinemax to Amazon Prime members. Once you are logged into your account you’ll need to go to Amazon Channels and choose the networks to which you’d like to subscribe. A free-trial period will immediately begin, and then all billing for access to the content will be handled by Amazon. You are then free to stream content from Amazon Video.
