Hacker Group Anonymous Targets the Federal Reserve
The Anonymous hacker group plans to attack the Federal Reserve tomorrow most likely with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack which is designed to shut down the agencys web site. The hacker group is calling for public protest in a YouTube video until Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke steps down. The group has dubbed this campaign Operation Empire State Rebellion and is timed to coincide with Flag Day which is June 14. This past weekend Anonymous took down the site of the Spanish national police in retaliation for the arrest of the three people allegedly connected with the group and the week before that the group hit a Turkish government site.
The group, which has made a name for itself organizing random anonymous Internet users and getting them to turn their computers against targets in DoS attacks, is critical of the Federal Reserve’s involvement in the global financial crisis and what it says is the politicization of the global banking industry.
